Half pilsner half oat farmhouse with strawberries and lavender 🍓🍓🍓

Review

Aroma – 11/12

Strawberry and floral lavender waft off the nose at a medium-high level.  The fruit is slightly jammy with fresh skin character as well.  There’s a slight sweetness, blending into fresh pasta malt smell.  A low yogurt note.   Touch of clove phenols as it warms.

Appearance – 3/3

Pours a light, creamy, salmon colored liquid.  A heavy haze obscures any light transmission.  Small and fine, white bubbles form a modest head, that fades quickly.

Flavor – 17/20

Tart strawberries pop on the flavor.  This almost has a fruit smoothie quality, as you can taste the fruit pulp.  A floral lavender flavor fills in with a hint of vegetal greenness.  The doughy malt has a bit of cracker to it.  A low-medium acidity is clean, and lactic forward.  Low bitterness.  The finish leaves behind a lingering spiced fruit.

Mouthfeel – 5/5

Medium bodied.  Moderate carbonation hits the front of the mouth.  There’s a low level of alcohol warming in the throat.  The mouthfeel is soft and pillowy throughout the taste.  Zero astringency.

Overall Impression – 9/10

An amazingly refreshing, dry fruit beer.  The strawberry character here is fresh and authentic.  The lavender compliments nicely with the strawberry expression.  It could be toned down just a touch in the flavor for my taste.  The pillowy body really helps convey an airy lightness to this beer.

Rating – 45/50

I’m really excited bout this base beer rotating through other fruits.  Dry fruited beers are some of my favorites since they don’t have the overbearing residual sweetness you see in most commercial examples.
